PostHeaderIcon How do I know if Muay Thai or kickboxing is right for me?

I am 13 and a girl. I haven’t done a lot of sports in the past, just a few recent swimming stints. But I want to start kickboxing or Muay Thai. How can I tell if its the right sport for me? Thanks.

Well… You’ll have to be a bit of a masochist to do Muay Thai or kickboxing.

The training is very tough and first couple months will be mostly about conditioning. So you can expect a lot of bruises on your shins, even slightly abrasive on your shins, knees, and elbows until you get use to it.

Once you start to spar, you’ll quickly discover some new pain that you have never felt before. But at the same time, you’d be surprise by how hard you can strikes.

You’re still relative young, but if you stick to the sport, you have no limit of how far you want to go and how much you want to accomplish.

Don’t get me wrong, Muay Thai is a fun sport, but it isnt for everybody. Only really way you know if it is for you is to go and try it. Try it for about a month or two if possible because it take a bit before you pick it up.

PostHeaderIcon Is 13 to young for Kickboxing as a fitness thing?

I currently do karate but I would like to get fitter. Me and my friend (both 13) were thinking of joining maybe a gym to start kickboxing.

It’s probably ok. Being fit is always good and the younger you start (being healthy that is) the longer it lasts you. The only potential problem I could think of is your body is not done developing yet… I dont know if you get injured if it can mess up your body later.

I would go see a doctor first definitely. You always should, no matter who or how old you are. You have to make sure it is a good idea and that you are fit/able/ok/set to go.
