If I take up muay thai kickboxing will I be a good fighter?
Im 15 right but when im 16 im planning on doing Muay Thai Kickboxing because I love the sport and also for self-defense. Also will I be stronger or better at fighting than my friends? All my friends are cut or muscular or just big and im the smallest one. Im not big im not cut nor muscular.
2 years is usually enough to make you able to defend yourself against average morons who assault you.
If you train longer then the full answer to 4 of your questions is ABSOLUTELY.
Muai Thai is arguably the best striking martial art out there, outclasses boxing, kickboxing and karate- way up there with Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu.
Oh and sorry to break it to you but the thing about you not being to be cut and muscular… you’re going to be!
The amount of training they force on you is very important to muscle development, although you’re probably going to be focused on flexibility for those high kicks.
Best Fitness Program For Me?
Im wanting to start exercising again by doing some sort of fitness program. Im not looking to lose weight, just get in shape. Better cardio and tone up a bit. Im thinking something like kickboxing.. any other suggestions??
Kick boxing is great!! do you belong to a gym? spin class and swimming are great and fun too, dancing is fun as well, make sure you are eating right too!
You need to eat lean meats (chicken, fish, turkey, lean beef) , low gi fruits (apples, bananas, pineapple, oranges), green veggies (broccoli, celery, green lettuce, spinach), only whole wheat breads (look on the package and see if the first ingredient is whole wheat flour, if it is it should be good unless it has high fructose corn syrup like Mrs Bairds does). Jillian Michaels from biggest loser has a great quote, "before you eat your food ask yourself, does it have a momma or did it come from the ground? If not don’t eat it." Eat 5 - 6 small meals a day, this will increase your metabolism and help you to not feel so hungry in between meals. It’s all about portion and calorie control regardless of what food you are eating, but remember cleaning up your diet and eating X amount of calories of lean good healthy foods instead of X amount of calories of candy bars (I know you are probably not eating 4 candy bars a day but its just an example) will help you lose it faster. The leaner you are eating the faster you will lose it, and you will get a toned healthy look instead of a skinny jiggly look. You also need to drink at least 8 glasses (8oz) of water a day. Sometimes hunger is mistaken for thirst so if you are hungry drink 8 oz of water and wait 30 minutes, if you are still hungry then eat a light healthy snack. Water also helps you feel fuller longer and helps flush out toxins that may prevent fat loss. Also allow your self a cheat day (but don’t go over board and eat everything in sight or like 5 cakes in that day). Allowing yourself a cheat day once a week will help cut out cravings… Think of it like a reward if you did well with your diet and exercise that week have a piece of pie… If not just stick with you healthy food. You can find recipes for decent tasting healthy foods on sights like bodyforlife.com and bodybuilding.com and also on recipe sights like allrecipes.com, foodfit.com, cookinglight.com and foodnetwork.com
You need to do a good mix of both cardio and strength training, strength training is not going to make you look like Arnold, I promise (unless you are taking test). Toning and building muscle strength will help you lose fat quicker as you will be burning calories all day to feed your muscle tone instead of just while you doing cardio activity and it increases metabolism. Running, walking, rollerblading, swimming are good cardio work outs. You can also get some at home videos. I personally like Gilad’s Kick boxing, ten minute solutions videos (ten minute solutions are good because they have 5 ten minute segments and you can do one or all five or three or what ever you want to do at the time and they have a variety, like dance, pilates, yoga, etc.), shape and woman’s health videos. Get your self some 5 pound dumbbells or a gym member ship and do bicep curls, push ups, sit ups, squats, dead lifts, lunges, tricep over head extensions, chest presses, shoulder presses, etc. You can do most of this on your own if you just go and buy some free weights, but a gym membership is helpful as well. If you do end up getting a gym membership I would consult a personal trainer (most memberships come with a free session) they can show you what to do and come up with a meal plan for you… You can find the videos I mentioned on the web at collagevideo.com, or at ross (cheap cheap at ross) or walmart or any other place that sells dvds.
Lastly, don’t get discouraged, it takes time… you should be losing 2 pounds of fat a week safely, more is not typically safe. but you could gain weight especially if you are gaining muscle. So if you get on the scale and it says you’ve gain two pounds don’t freak out… just look in the mirror and go by how your clothes look and feel on you. Hope this helps! email me if you have any other questions!
what is better muay thai or kickboxing?
Theres been debates on whether they are the same thing. I know that their not, I know that thai utilizes the elbows and knees more whereas kick boxing does not
I just want to know, from experienced martial artists whether kickboxing or muay thai will help me in a self defence situation and also help me in the ring. I know there are lots of other arts, but kickboxing and muay thai appeal to me the most.
Thanks in advance =]
To the outsider they may seem the same but they are like night and day. Muay Thai has roots that are far older than Kickboxing and employs more tools and more techniques. It has been shown to be effective in the ring and can be in the streets, however it has limitations. Muay Thai does not teach you groundfighting, weaponry, how to deal with self-defense situations like grabs, chokes, holds or multiple attackers or joint locks. Furthermore there are techniques that work well in the ring but may be dangerous in the street. Its quite effective but is very taxing on the body. As you grow older you may not be able to execute such techniques simply because of the natural process of aging.
Any fitness advisers out there?
Well I joined this club, where they do yoga, and kickboxing. I’ve never been athletic therefore, I’m not sure how to start. There is a yoga and kickboxing session everyday, 6x a week (each session lasts for an hour). Im a beginner therefore how many times a week should I do kickboxing, and or yoga?
I’m also trying to lose some weight if that helps.
Thankss!
if you have the time i’d say do them 3-4 times a week i wish i could do kickboxing that often but my class is only scheduled 2 times a week, i end up practicing out of class atleast once a week…
don’t be afraid to sit out for a few minutes to get some water or something if you feel dizzy, just tell the teacher and they should understand because they are there to help you do your best not to keep you down…
would you prefer muay thai or kickboxing?
im14 years old 5′10 155 pounds and wanna start in the fighting world what would you rather take muay thai or kickboxing or any other fighting style i got good upper body (weight lifting a gym )and lower legs(6years of soccer and gym)what would you guys recommend???
Muay Thai is the superior striking style. It is more complete as it makes use of all eight limbs (feet, hands, knees, elbows). Muay Thai also encompasses the clinch whereas Kickboxing doesn’t.
I also think Muay Thai is alot more interesting as it has a great history and culture behind it. After you have trained for a while you could consider traveling to Thailand and training with the Thai’s in the home of Muay Thai. I am doing this for three months from October - January this year.
I will be putting my training and travel blog up here if you want to read and see what training in Thailand with the thai’s is like.

Muay Thai is THE striking art and has proven to be the most effective style of standup fighting in the world today. Look at Mixed Martial Arts for proof and you will see that almost every fighter will train Muay Thai.
Why do people think Muay Thai came from kickboxing?
Many people around the web and in Yahoo Answers ae saying that Muay Thai came from kickboxing. For GODS SAKE,Muay Thai was already being used thousands of year before the Japanese created the sport of”Kickboxing”!
Well they don’t know. They’re taking the literal meaning of the word and classifying any style that involves kicking and punching under "kickboxing". I have no problem with that actually except when the Japanese try to dismiss Muay Thai and claim it as a Japanese invention. In the early days of K-1, Muay Thai was hardly mentioned yet other striking styles were promoted. When a majority of Karate fighters used techniques like Thai kicks, people naturally assumed it was from the Japanese arts and that simply wasn’t the case. Misrepresentation is a no no especially when you are talking about styles that "kick" and "box". Give credit where it is due.
Is it worth it to do any of the kickboxing classes or taekwondo?
I do muay thai during the summer and have significant martial arts experience previously. During the school year however(college) I have the option of either going to a kickboxing class at the rec center or doing the martial arts club(Taekwondo).
I already have a black belt in kenpo karate so going through the belt system again isn’t really appealing to me. What I really want is to be able to train in muay thai technique in some way while im at school.
Between the kickboxing class (which requires hand wraps but i believe its probably more for fitness since it is most popular with girls) and the martial arts club is either one of those a good option or should i just train on my own somehow.
Why not try them both. You can probably get a trial period before you have to pay anything. Then stick with the one you like, or neither. But maybe while you’re there some options to train in muay thai will present itself. Like maybe the TKD club has an open gym sometimes and you can go practice then.
As far as I know, kickboxing is closer to muay thai. At least when we have former muay thai or kickboxers come try Taekwondo they have similar ‘bad habits.’ (Not actually ‘bad’, just don’t mesh with the TKD version of techniques.)
Or why not start your own student karate or muay thai club? You probably aren’t alone.
Get over the rank thing. All a black belt means is that you know the basics. You have only touched the tip of the belt system iceberg.
@ nobunaga: Why so bitter? Not all taekwondo schools are McDojangs. Since this guys in college there’s actually a pretty good chance he’s found a legit club.
@ jacky chen: You don’t know what you’re talking about. WTF does allow head shots! How else would they have all those knockouts? You just can’t punch to the head (because it’s too easy.)

How do I get a toned body? (easy ten points)?
My goal is to have a body like Adriana Lima, toned, muscular and slim.
I weigh 140 pounds and I am 5′ 5”. I’m chubby, I would say right now.
What’s my ideal weight?
I know that Adriana’s body is partially because of genetics, but I don’t want HERS body, I want something similarily to my bodyform.
What should I eat, how often should I work out? I am 15 years old.
Currently I do Fitness Kickboxing twice a week. I have done this for about a month. My body has firmed up and I have more muscles than I had before I started. It’s really hardcore.
If I want, I could maybe run 30 minutes once a week and swim once a week. How long should I swim? That would bring my workouts up to four times a week.
I really need help with this, I hate my body and I want a more tone one to feel really great about myself.
Before I started to work out, I did nothing.
So please nothing too hard
I want serious answers. If you write something immature, you WILL get reported
I say you should go for the running and swimming. If you decide to swim, you can decide the length of the workout by how many calories you want to lose. 30 minutes of swimming laps burns around 250 calories.
You should also take into account nutrition. Focus on getting at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day as well as lean meat and whole wheat. Cut down on soda and junk food as well.
I’m a girl. I have a question about kickboxing. Anyone with experience?
I was told today that kickboxing will whip me in shape much faster than the gym. I am dedicated to the gym but the weight training and cardio doesn’t seem to be getting me as quick as results as I was told about kickboxing classes. I work so hard at the gym I feel like I’m going to throw up at times. I really want to lose a little more weight and get it excellent shape.
Which is better for fitness, kickboxing or weight training/cardio at the gym? Anything that will get this moving along I’m willing (and have been willing) to give it my all.
Thanks,
I should have mentioned that it is a cardio kickboxing class. I mean, you CAN train spar with other trainers, but it is not required if you’re not comfortable. I could definitely use this. I really don’t want people calling me ‘kiddo’ ’sook’ and ‘girly’ anymore.
what you do in kickboxing is 2x whatever you do in the gym it will include cardio and weightlifting at the same time
