can you help me with my boxing?
Im a first degree black belt in brazilian jiu jitsu and this is widley known at my school so most people dont really mess with me or will avoid fighting at all costs. I recently got in my first real fight where the other guy actually knew how to fight (im a junior in highschool) he was a muy thai fighter now i went into the fight confident because of my jiu jitsu experience but i quickly realized that mut thai fighters arent very easy to take down i did end up taking him down and getting him in an arm triangle but the five minutes or so of stand up before me were horrible i didnt realise how bad i was at stand up before since i would always get a take down in the frist like twenty seconds so what im here to ask is for a good boxing workout that i can do on my own with a bag
There really isn’t much we can say to you here that will help you directly. Imagine trying to learn your BJJ on your own. It would have been really tough huh, and you wouldn’t be nearly as good as you are now, right? Stand up striking is just as much of an art as grappling can be, and to try to learn how to defend and attack on your feet without the help of a proficient teacher, isn’t going to do much for you.
The best advice I think I can give you is to join a martial art that offers mainly stand up. It sounds like you still want to focus mainly on your grappling skills. If that’s the case, which stand up art you choose doesn’t matter too much so long as they teach you how to adequately defend yourself while on your feet. If you truly want to add to your grappling skills, you might consider joining your school’s wrestling team. I’m not versed in BJJ or wrestling, but from what I understand, wrestling would offer you more options for take downs.
This probably wasn’t what you wanted to hear, but I hope it helped you anyhow.
Is swimming or martial arts(i.e. kickboxing) better for fitness?
Which is better to improve fitness?
i would say the martial arts.. because they make u strech.. so in get better with that..
and also they condition u more.. with situps, pushups…. a bit of running/sparing so its very conditioning
so my answer martial arts…
where can i learn kickboxing in edinburgh?
Hi, i used to go to kickboxing classes a few years ago in Fife, but now work in Edinburgh and would prefer a class i could go to after work, does anyone know where there are any classes in Edinburgh? I am unable to go on a Wednesday however any other night would be okay. I don’t want to get tied in to fighting and sparring, i don’t really like hitting people! I just want to do the fitness and take some anger on the pads…
There’s a class on at The University of Edinburgh matey, or if you want come to Glasgow. Gd Luck

Does Muay Thai kickboxing have any sort of ranking system?
I saw a guy try to rank the system like karate but i thought Muay Thai Kickboxing did not have a ranking system?
Official Muay Thai uses a special band often worn around the head, arm or leg to signify the prowness and skill levels of their fighters. Each fighter can also choose their own special head piece as well. There are no belts, no formal ranking system at all in Muay Thai but a good fighter, who can prove they train good fighters can get to certain titles for their abilities much like you have Sensei, Renshi, Kyoshi and so forth in Karate systems, however they are different in MT.
There was a school about 40 minutes from here that claimed to teach MT. They used a belt system for their students and it intrigued me…especially since I only studied MT off and on back in my old kickboxing days. I went there, watched the classes and it was major joke. It was clear the instructor had a little training but he mixed Karate and Judo in with his MT…all three of which he was not very good at.
When I inquired about his use of belts he got all defensive and started getting crappy with me…and all I asked was why he used a belt system when there is none in MT. He was rude so it was clear he was a false teacher which there are huge numbers of schools that claim to teach MT that are a joke. I do not teach Muay Thai but still study it when I have time. It was a great kickboxing system and helped my traditional Karate kumite ability a lot.
